Cost:
  • $100 for 1 day
  • $150 for 2 days

Checks/Purchase orders should be made out to Foxborough Public Schools and mailed to FPS Summer Institute, 60 South Street, Foxborough, MA 02035. For questions please contact Alison Mello, Assistant Superintendent at 508-543-1675.
When registering be sure to schedule your choice of one (1) Keynote for each day that you are attending, and two (2) breakout sessions for a total of 5 hours of PD each day. Coffee, water, morning snacks and lunch are included!!!

Identifying and Addressing Linguistic Challenges in K-5 Math Word Problems for All Learners
Did you know that even student who know the math tend to do up to 30% worse on word problems? In this session, research- and practice-based solutions to linguistic challenges in K-5 math word problems will be shared and explored.  Educators who attend this session will have the opportunity to work in grade-level groups to practice identifying and addressing linguistic challenges with grade-level, CCSS-aligned word problems.  Although, this workshop will particularly benefit our ELL students and students who need additional literacy support, this session aims to support you in supporting all students acquisition of academic mathematical language.

Numberless Word Problems are just what they sound like; word problems with the numbers and question stems removed to provide an opportunity for students to make sense of the relationships in the problem before rushing into computation. See how using Numberless Word Problems can empower students to access the problem situation and employ their own wonderings, contexts, and questions to make sense of problems. Beyond Tens and Ones: Using Base 10 Blocks to Build Place Value Knowledge with Large and Small Numbers
Base 10 Blocks are a staple in elementary math classrooms, but did you know that you can use them to explore numbers bigger than 1000 and smaller than 1? In this session, we will explore the use of Base 10 Blocks to deepen students' understanding of large numbers as well as decimals. We all know that in math students need practice. Unfortunately this often comes in the form of worksheets that can be boring and tedious and create even more paper in your classrooms. This hands-on session will focus on alternatives to traditional worksheets including interactive routines, tools, games, and technology.
