Grades K-5 FLEX Teacher/Senior Instructor: Childhood Education and Care
Hello there! I'm a proud teacher with 21 years of teaching experience. I began my teaching career as a fourth grade teacher at the Bates Elementary School in Salem, Massachusetts. Since then, I have taught fourth grade for eight years. From there, I moved to a job as a reading coach under the Reading First grant. Having missed my true passion--having a classroom of my own, I returned to teaching as a first grade teacher for the next five years. Next, I moved to the Carlton Innovation School, also in Salem, Massachusetts where I have finished my five years as a member of a team teachers that teach grades one and two. Currently I'm what's called a FLEX teacher where each trimester I teach groups of first, second and third graders based on student/school need and deliver interventions to small groups for grades K-5. In addition, I teach undergraduate and graduate students at Salem State University. My courses involve literacy, reading assessment and intervention, children's literature and early childhood and elementary education. My research interests include encouraging student talk to increase performance and integrating the content areas via discipline literacy. I'm the proud Doggie Daddy of two rescue dogs Winston from Hollywood, CA and Velma from Georgia.
